“Having a good balanced diet is one of the best remedies for your skin. Do not just cut out some foods because you will get vitamin deficiencies unless you start taking supplements. Food – a balanced diet – in moderation is help towards achieving a flawless skin.” This is the message I always get from Dr. Gloria Karirirwe, the head of our medical team at Livara. The question is, why was she giving me this advice?
One of the reasons I got a pimples breakout in October last year was because I changed my diet completely. Because of the different stresses of work at the time, my diet consistent of fried foods and gallons of soda. The fried food was easy to get at any one time and the soda, well it was refreshing – or so I thought! To make matters worse, I also had a habit of eating late at night. I recall a time I went a whole week without taking any plain fresh water. All I drank was soda or other carbonated drinks. Totally wrong for my health and my pocket! After I earned myself a well decorated Christmas tree of a bumpy face, the first thing I did was run to our doctors at Livara. That is where the advice came from.
Several clients come to us looking for solutions for their problematic skins. Of course the reasons for the problems range from hormones to skin reactions to skin diseases and many are as a results of changed eating habits. Trust me, the same advice I got from Livara’s Dr. Gloria is the same advice our doctors always give our clients and it is the same advice I give them too.
Maintaining a balanced diet rich in vegetables is not only good for your heart, your bones, your liver, and your nails (seriously!) but it is also good for your skin which also happens to be the largest organ of the body.
A balanced diet in moderation shall not only help with the process of cleansing your body, it shall also go a long way in regulating your body weight. An issue that many a person hustle with on a day to day basis. Having a cleansed body and healthy weight (within the recommended Body Mass Index) will not go unnoticed by your body’s largest organ. You skin will be happy and so will your face. Your journey towards having a flawless skin starts the moment you start treating your body to a balanced diet.
You may ask, “So what does a balanced diet include?” This includes having carbohydrates especially from whole grains (rice, matooke, potatoes, cassava, etc…), lean proteins (fish, chicken, milk, beans, peas, etc…), vitamins (fresh fruits and vegetables), oils (which should be taken sparingly) and lots of drinking water (this is my favourite addition).
To get that flawless skin also try to consume less of alcohol, cholesterol, refined grains, solid and saturated fats, salt and sugars.
With good nutrition your body is less prone to disease, infection (pimples are an infection), fatigue and poor performance. Remember that when you feed your body well, your skin shall reflect your internal condition which should be a good happy story.
At Livara, our skin journey goes beyond application of body butters, cleansers and toners because we take beauty seriously. Beauty is not just skin-deep to us. At Livara, beauty is a culture. Having a flawless skin starts from the inside out and we understand that maintaining a balanced diet shall take you a step closer to that ultimate prize – a beautifully flawless skin.
