If you’re a natural with 4C hair, you’re probably no stranger to the high puff, also known as the pineapple. The pineapple style is one of the easiest ways to style your natural hair while also keeping it out of your face. Here’s a step by step guide to help you get the perfect pineapple puff.
Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle your hair gently. It’s crucial to detangle your hair thoroughly to prevent knots and tangles.
If you’re looking to make your curls more defined in the pineapple puff, apply some leave-in conditioner. Use a leave-in conditioner like our 2in1 Sapphire Deep Conditioner and Leave-In Treatment to keep your curls hydrated and well moisturized as you have in the style. Work it through your hair in sections to ensure every strand is coated.
Additionally, stretching your hair beforehand might make the process easier. You can stretch your hair overnight in twists, braids(bituutwa), or Bantu knots.
Brush your hair in an upward motion, starting from the roots. Be gentle so you don’t damage your edges.
Gather all your hair towards the top of your head and secure it with an elastic band. Make sure that it’s tight enough to hold the hair but not too tight that it pulls on your scalp.
Secure your hair using a thick material that won’t tug at your strands and break them. Some find it convenient using satin hair ties, or even clean shoelaces. .
Place the hair tie of your choice at the along your hairline and secure it at the back by tying it once. Create the pineapple puff by holding the two ends of the hair tie from the back, pulling the two ends upwards until you achieve a puff of your desired size.
Don’t pull your hair too tight, as this can cause hair breakage. Once you have the puff, fluff out the ends of your hair to make it more voluminous.
Lastly, lay your edges using an edge control product or gel. Using a small brush or toothbrush, gently brush your edges to smooth them down. And there you have it, the perfect high puff!
