April oh April! Starts off with a fools’ day and then for 2016, houses the Lord’s resurrection day. April 2016 has been a month of astounding new beginnings and one definitely filled with self-discoveries and realisations on higher ground. And no, this series – Marrieds to Singles; Singles to Marrieds – is not inspired by UB40’s On Higher Ground but by regular, rather heated, discussions about marriage that I usually have with my super awesome young married friends. Being with them would make any single lady or gentleman yearn for that holy sacrament; and marriage discussions with them would make single ladies and gentlemen yearn to hold onto single kingdom.
The closer I approach thirty, marriage is a topic that seems to savagely haunt almost 8 out of 10 conversations I have. Could it be because society expects me to be “settled” by now? Could it be because I want to be settled by now? Could it be because I consentingly ended a seemingly promising eight year old relationship and people, unwelcomingly, wonder what’s next for me? Funny enough, such people not only predominantly exist in Africa but do exist elsewhere out there. Could it be because marriage is bliss and everybody should aspire to get there? Could it be because marriage is such a fallacy that the world has painted yellow yet underneath is red? What is it exactly about this thing called marriage? Back to the point, I shall explore my very interesting conversations about marriage in this new series because this is a topic that many hold dear. All the views I do acknowledge, some I do believe in, others I do not necessarily believe but all deserve free and fair wholesome attention.
You may wonder, or not, why the founder of a cosmetics company would be interested in exploring such a topic?! Simply put: matters of the heart affect our well-being and the effects of which are reflected by our bodies through our skin, hair, weight, attitudes and behaviour. Believe you me, whatever your feeling, your face reflects. It is after all, the largest organ we have. Also, at Livara, we do believe in wholesome living and sharing information that could affect our happiness and well-being. On this note, marriage it is for now! Oh yes ladies, we do love being married, we do hate being married, we do love being single and we do hate being single. So what is it that we truly love? I for one, I love me and if you don’t love me, well that’s your problem. After all, God tells us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves and so my dear neighbours, you do benefit from my self-love. Livara was built on a foundation of love – love for soul and body – and love is all we can give through the avenues we’ve got.
