Washing hair should be the easiest thing you do. No doubt it’s good practice to clean your hair from time to time to keep it healthy and promote growth, however, there’s some errors we make as we wash our hair that could instead be ruining it. Sit tight as we discuss some of the mistakes you’re probably making and how you can fix them.
Applying shampoo to hair that hasn’t been wetted makes it difficult to get rid of the residues of the shampoo. You want to make sure you completely wet your hair before you can apply any shampoo so it can lather easily and you don’t have to use any more than you need to.
There’s no reason for you to go berserk on your scalp when washing your hair. Scrubbing your scalp like a maniac could leave the tips of your hair damaged with split ends and your lengths dry from applying too much pressure. Additionally, being too rough on your scalp could leave it dry, resulting in over production of oil.
When hair is wet, it’s most especially prone to breakage so you need to be super gentle as you wash it. Use your fingertips(NOT nails) to lightly massage your scalp as you incorporate the shampoo.
To avoid hair loss, it’s advisable to detangle your hair before you go on to apply shampoo. Forcefully trying to wash hair when it’s untangled only serves to break your hair further.
When it’s detangled however, shampoo flows easier through the hair. Make sure to detangle your hair with a wide toothed comb or brush before you proceed to wash your hair.
Applying a lot of shampoo may appeal to you if you want really clean hair, however, doing this rids your hair of its natural oils and leaves it dry. Too much conditioner could also leave your hair greasy and oily.
You only need to cleanse your hair with shampoo twice, and for each turn used use a small sized amount of shampoo. For conditioner, experts advise not to apply it to your roots to avoid weighing them down with product, rather work it through the lengths of your hair to your tips.
Using excessively hot water only leaves your hair dry and prone to damage, and the direct heat of the hot water on the scalp accelerates hair loss.
We advise that you wash your hair using lukewarm water to prevent any frizz and damage to your hair.
Washing hair everyday does not equal healthy hair. When you use shampoo everyday, you’re stripping your hair of the natural oils which in turn leaves it dry and lifeless.
We advise that you avoid washing your hair this frequent, instead, stick to shampooing your hair at least biweekly. Use our sulfate-free Sapphire Hair Shampoo for your every wash to leave your hair clean and moisturized.
Finally, you’re a gem and you should treat yourself as such as you execute hair washing. Avoid these mistakes at all costs to maintain long healthy hair.
