Weak hair snaps easily, and having it usually means having to deal with a lot of hair loss on a regular basis. Hair can become weaker due to practices like frequent heat styling, dyeing, chemical straightening, or even not moisturizing your hair enough. In today’s blog article, we’re sharing three ways you can strengthen weak hair and prevent further hair loss.
- Deep conditioning
- Deep conditioning is a method that goes beyond regular conditioning to repair and nourish the hair shaft from the inside out. It typically involves using a thick, concentrated conditioner or hair mask, leaving it on for an extended period, usually 20–30 minutes, and rinsing it off. Deep conditioning helps replenish moisture and strengthen the hair shaft.
- Use a deep conditioner with moisturizing ingredients: Ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, glycerin, and other moisturizing elements are what you want to look out for in deep conditioners. These ingredients deeply hydrate the hair and improve its elasticity. Enjoy these ingredients and more with our 2in1 Sapphire Deep Conditioner and Leave-In Treatment.
- Frequency: Deep condition once every 1-2 weeks after shampooing for long-lasting moisture. Don’t forget to seal in the moisture with a natural oil or hair butter afterwards.
- Use protein treatments.
- For anyone who has undergone chemical treatments like hair bleaching or relaxing and is experiencing limp hair that breaks easily, a protein treatment can fix the problem. Because protein treatments are really intense, you should only use them every four to six weeks. If you use them more frequently than necessary, your hair may get stiff and break off.
- Natural ingredients: Look for protein treatments with natural ingredients like olive oil and egg protein to provide an effective protein boost to your hair.
- Use nourishing natural oils.
- With continual use, applying certain natural oils for your hair can strengthen it. Natural oils like coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, and argan oil are some of the oils known to boost the overall strength of the hair.
- Application: Use these oils as pre-poo treatments or sealants after moisturizing. Limit use to 3-4 times a week and use only what’s enough to prevent weighing down your strands.
Other tips to help weak hair
- Avoid heat styling. Heat styling only serves to further weaken the hair by drying it out, so avoid it as much as possible. If you’re trying to strengthen weak hair, steer clear of the use of heat styling tools like blow dryers, straighteners, and curlers. If you must heat style, ensure to use a heat-protectant spray or cream and use moderate heat.
- Consume a balanced diet and keep hydrated. What you consume (and not consume) can have a direct impact on your hair. With that in mind, eat a balanced diet with protein, vitamins, and minerals that promote hair health, such as biotin, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids. And don’t forget to drink at least 2 liters of water a day to keep adequately hydrated.
- Limit combing. With hair that’s already weak and prone to breakage, the last thing you want to do is comb it regularly. Combing is a physical stressor which weak hair may not be able to handle. Cut back on combing and adopt detangling techniques like finger detangling, or simply keep your hair in protective hairstyles to avoid having to manipulate it regularly. If you must comb, make sure to use a comb with wide teeth that won’t tug at or break the hair.
